Missing The Mark

Bicyclists are becoming a force to reckon with. Car companies are making fun of us! When you discover you can not beat them, and before you join them, you tease them.

Of course, they fail to understand that anyone who is contemplating bicycles for transportation is no longer interested in overpowered machines that can pass illegally while speeding on blind curves. They also seem to think that those of us who do ride for transportation are not capable of riding to work in the rain in proper rain attire or in a straight line.

Aahhh, advertising- hoping you are too stupid to know when your intelligence is being insulted.

Oh crap. That means they're going to start beating us up next. Oh, and sorry for the gratuitous O.G.* quote. (*Original Gandhi - I wonder if Gandhi has ever been called an O.G. before?)

  2. I guess they're telling people the story they want to hear- you can do the same aas you always did and help the environment. Interesting they seem to present a helmet as 'not cool'.

It provided my boys with a useful lesson in why you have to be careful watching adverts.

And the end slogan: 'Truth in Engineering' Hmm...

  6. These are the type of People in their Cars inspite of having Air Bags and Seat Belts are Crashing into Poles ,Walls and Trees and Killing themselves on Straight Roads in perfect Conditions. When a Cyclists gets Knocked down on those very Rare occasions it is always the Car that is at fault. No matter what they say the Car is the Major Environmental Hazard and Threat to our Planets Global Warming.

Now with this Recession more People are getting out on their Bikes to Save Money and also for Health Reasons, they do not want to be Fat anymore. The Car Manufacturers are getting Scared, first they Threaten you saying Cycling is not Safe then they Cajole you into Buying their Death Traps and Jeer and Tease you.But they can see the Revolution happening before them and there is no turning back. Now the Fight continues for better Infrastructure more Dedicated Cycle Paths and Narrow the Roads Please with Traffic free Areas. The Carcentric Petrol Heads are up in Arms, they have a lot of Clout with the City Councils but so have the Cycling Public who are Demanding more Respect on the Roads. Guess who is gradually Winning.

  7. I've never seen this commercial in its entirety before--I just saw the part where the Audi passes the car running on biodiesel. I thought that even that bit was dumb because I believe that the "diesel" engine was originally created to run on vegetable oil, but some oil barons back in the day decided to tinker with the original until it could run off the production waste of their regular gasoline operations. That waste is diesel, but that hardly makes diesel green.

On another note, how dare they juxtapose the cyclist and the Segway driver like that. Not only could the cyclist be well prepared for inclement weather, but he would look a lot cooler doing it than the dude on the Seway.

  8. @Dwayne-"Ha... they put the Segway guy in a Members Only jacket. Now that's spite!" I know! What did Segway ever do to them? : )

One of the subliminal things I find amusing in this ad is that the only humans in it are almost all self powered (except the poor guy who has to ride a Segway because his mother made him wear his Member's Only Jacket from high school) The Audi has no face attached to it, it is only a machine. They have equated being an individual, a human, with weakness and suffering. Unless you can hide behind a machine, you are lacking.

So, if we remain faceless we are powerful where if we show our faces and throw in our lot with others we are powerless and pathetic. That is a much worse message than "drive our car".
